Aston Villa remain firmly focused on Nicolas Jackson as their priority striker target, with club-to-club negotiations now beginning over a potential move from Chelsea.

Jackson has been high on Villa’s shortlist for some time, and reports indicate that the Senegal international is open to joining Unai Emery’s side. The striker already knows Emery from their time together at Villarreal, adding another layer of appeal to a potential reunion.

Atlético Madrid also made contact over Jackson last week, but their preference for a loan deal has complicated their pursuit, with Chelsea prioritising a permanent transfer. Aston Villa, meanwhile, appear increasingly prepared to meet Chelsea’s valuation.

Villa have also explored a move for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, even seeing an initial approach rejected. However, Jackson remains the club’s preferred option.

The situation surrounding Mateta is therefore unlikely to progress while Villa still have a realistic opportunity to land Jackson. With Ollie Watkins’ future also uncertain, the coming days could be decisive.

Villa’s message is clear: Jackson first, Mateta only if the Jackson deal cannot be completed.

And with talks now starting between the clubs, this is one transfer story to watch closely before the window closes.
