Chelsea Target Koundé and Frenkie de Jong

Chelsea are exploring the possibility of signing Jules Koundé from Barcelona in January, while Frenkie de Jong has also emerged as a player of interest to the London club.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, citing journalist Matteo Moretto, Chelsea have made enquiries about Koundé and are assessing the financial conditions of a potential January transfer. The French defender’s future at Barcelona is reportedly uncertain as his role in the team comes under greater competition.

Koundé previously came close to joining Chelsea in 2022 before choosing Barcelona. The 27-year-old has since established himself as a versatile defender, capable of playing both right-back and centre-back.

However, Barcelona could consider a sale if the right offer arrives. Moretto suggested that a deal could cost more than €50 million, although no official asking price or agreement has been announced.

Football Focus understands that Chelsea are also interested in Frenkie de Jong, adding another Barcelona player to the club’s potential recruitment plans.

The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a possible move to the Premier League, with reports indicating that Chelsea are monitoring his situation ahead of the January window. However, no formal offer or agreement has been confirmed.

A move for either player would depend on the financial terms and Barcelona’s willingness to negotiate. Koundé’s versatility could strengthen Chelsea’s defensive options, while De Jong would offer additional quality and control in midfield.

With January approaching, Chelsea’s interest in two Barcelona players could make the Spanish club’s transfer plans worth watching.

Could Chelsea realistically sign both Koundé and De Jong in January?
