David Silva Comes Out of Retirement at 40
David Silva has come out of retirement at 40 to join Hong Kong side Supreme Sha Tin, three years after retiring because of a serious knee injury.

David Silva is back. 😭🔥
Three years after walking away from professional football, the Spanish magician has decided to lace up his boots again at the age of 40.
Silva has signed a short-term deal with Hong Kong Premier League side Supreme Sha Tin, ending his retirement and setting up one of the most unexpected comebacks football has seen in recent years. The club confirmed the move after Silva passed his medical.
The former Manchester City and Spain star retired in July 2023 after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during pre-season with Real Sociedad. He was only 37 at the time.
Now, three years later, El Mago is returning.
Silva spent a decade at Manchester City between 2010 and 2020, making 436 appearances, scoring 77 goals and becoming one of the most important players in the club's history. He won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups with City.
His international career was just as special.
Silva won the 2010 World Cup and two European Championships with Spain, earning 125 caps and scoring 35 goals.
But don't expect to see him immediately walking onto the pitch.
Supreme Sha Tin said Silva will first travel to Hong Kong, join his new teammates in training and work towards match fitness before making his debut. Reports indicate the agreement is short-term, with one Spanish outlet saying the plan is for him to play a single match.
And suddenly, a player who thought his football career was over has another chapter to write.
David Silva at 40. In Hong Kong. After retiring three years ago.
Football really does have a way of surprising us.
