06 — World Cup debut.

10 — Iconic shirt number.

26 — Retirement year.

06/10/2026 — Messi’s farewell match.

What are the chances of that?

Lionel Messi has just produced another coincidence that is making some football fans seriously ask whether the sport is somehow scripted.

Messi made his World Cup debut at the 2006 World Cup, wearing Argentina's No.18 shirt at the tournament. He would later inherit the legendary No.10, which became inseparable from his identity.

Fast-forward 20 years and Messi's international career ended on October 6, 2026 — written as 06/10/26.

And the numbers line up almost perfectly:

06 → Messi's World Cup debut year

10 → Messi's iconic shirt number

26 → The year he retired from international football

06/10/26 → His farewell match

But it gets even stranger.

Messi did not simply walk off the pitch quietly.

On October 6, he played his final Argentina match against Benin at the Monumental Stadium. Argentina won 3-0, Messi scored from the penalty spot and provided two assists before saying goodbye to the fans.

The match was even stopped in the 10th minute for a huge ovation in honour of Messi's No.10 shirt.

So now football fans have a sequence that looks almost too neat:

2006 → World Cup debut

No.10 → Messi's identity

2026 → international retirement

06/10/26 → farewell date

10th minute → tribute to No.10

126th international goal → final Argentina goal

Is this just an incredible collection of coincidences?

Obviously, there is no evidence that football is actually scripted. Messi's farewell date was deliberately organised by the Argentine Football Association, so the date itself was not some random event. FIFA had announced months earlier that his final Argentina appearance would take place against Benin on October 6.

But that does not stop the internet from going crazy over the pattern.

Because after everything Messi has achieved, even his goodbye seems to have been written like a football movie.

At this point, are we watching football… or a script?
