Messi Is Last One Standing From Barça’s 2011 XI
Pedro’s retirement leaves Lionel Messi as the only active player from Barcelona’s starting XI in the 2011 Champions League final.

Pedro Rodríguez has officially retired from football at 39.
And his retirement has created a crazy piece of Barcelona history.
Lionel Messi is now the only player from Barcelona's starting XI in the 2011 Champions League final still playing professional football.
Think about that team.
Víctor Valdés.
Dani Alves.
Javier Mascherano.
Gerard Piqué.
Eric Abidal.
Sergio Busquets.
Xavi Hernández.
Andrés Iniesta.
David Villa.
Pedro Rodríguez.
Lionel Messi.
Every single one of them has now retired from professional football — except Messi.
UEFA's official records confirm that those 11 players started the 2011 final against Manchester United at Wembley, where Barcelona won 3-1. Pedro opened the scoring before Wayne Rooney equalised, with Messi and David Villa completing the victory.
Pedro's retirement therefore closes another chapter of that legendary Barcelona generation.
The Spanish winger leaves football after a career spanning more than two decades, winning 25 major trophies, according to Reuters, including three Champions League titles with Barcelona, a Premier League title with Chelsea, the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 with Spain.
Barcelona also confirmed that Pedro scored in the 2011 Champions League final — one of the defining moments of his career.
But now there is only one man left.
Messi.
The same player who scored Barcelona's second goal that night is still playing more than 15 years later.
He has outlasted Valdés, Alves, Piqué, Abidal, Mascherano, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa and now Pedro.
One by one, the members of that legendary XI have disappeared from the professional game.
And somehow, Messi is still here.
The final survivor of Barcelona's 2011 Champions League-winning starting XI. 🔵🔴🐐
