Frank Leboeuf Suggests Estevão May Have to Leave Chelsea

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has suggested that Estevão Willian could eventually have to leave Stamford Bridge if Xabi Alonso cannot give the Brazilian winger regular playing time.

Leboeuf stressed that he considers Estevão a “pure talent”, but believes the youngster could become a casualty of Alonso’s preferred tactical system.

“I think Estevao might have to leave Chelsea and it’s a shame because he is a pure talent,” Leboeuf said, according to reports of his comments to MyGamble.

The former France international argued that Alonso should not necessarily change a system that brought him success at Bayer Leverkusen, pointing out that the Spaniard joined Chelsea after Estevão had already been signed.

“Estevao might be sacrificed. It might be time to sell him,” Leboeuf added, while stressing that the player deserves to be playing regularly.

The comments come amid growing discussion over Estevão’s limited Premier League involvement under Alonso. The 19-year-old has reportedly made four league appearances this season without starting, accumulating just 23 minutes.

However, Leboeuf’s comments should not be interpreted as confirmation that Estevão is leaving Chelsea. Recent reports indicate that Chelsea currently have no intention of selling the Brazilian, while Estevão himself is reportedly focused on establishing himself at Stamford Bridge.

For now, the situation remains a question of playing time rather than a confirmed transfer.
