Barcelona Scout Brazilian Defender Arthur Dias

Barcelona are closely monitoring Athletico Paranaense centre-back Arthur Dias after head scout João Amaral travelled to Brazil to watch the teenage defender in person.

Amaral was present at the Arena da Baixada for Athletico Paranaense's 2–1 victory over Bahia on September 20, with Dias one of the players under observation. The 19-year-old is a left-footed centre-back who has already established himself at senior level in Brazil.

Dias has also attracted attention after receiving his first senior Brazil call-up from Carlo Ancelotti. He previously captained Brazil's Under-20 side and has already made around 50 first-team appearances for Athletico despite his age.

Barcelona's interest fits sporting director Deco's broader approach to the transfer market. The club is looking to identify young players with potential before their value rises significantly, rather than waiting until they become established stars and commanding much higher transfer fees.

Dias is already generating significant interest across Europe. Tottenham reportedly had a €21 million offer for 80 per cent of his economic rights rejected during the summer, while Athletico are now said to value the defender at around €30 million.

Barcelona have not made a formal offer for Dias at this stage. Their current involvement is understood to be part of the scouting and evaluation process as the club assesses potential options for the centre-back position.

The position is an area Barcelona are continuing to monitor, with the club assessing both young prospects and more established options as it plans for future transfer windows.

For now, however, Dias appears to be a player firmly on Barcelona's radar rather than an imminent signing.
