Aston Villa Complete Zion Suzuki Deal as Emiliano Martínez Exit Looms

Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma in a deal worth €30 million plus up to €5 million in performance-related add-ons.

The 23-year-old Japan international is set to sign a five-year contract with the Premier League club, keeping him at Villa Park until 2031. The agreement comes just days after Suzuki’s proposed move to Paris Saint-Germain collapsed.

According to reports, PSG had been prepared to complete a deal for Suzuki before the transfer broke down over late financial and commission demands. Aston Villa quickly moved to take advantage of the situation, matching the €30m base fee and securing the highly rated goalkeeper.

Suzuki has emerged as a major target for Unai Emery, with Villa having monitored the Japanese goalkeeper for an extended period. His arrival could now pave the way for Emiliano Martínez to leave the club, with Juventus stepping up their pursuit of the Argentina international.

Juventus have submitted a new offer for Martínez, with negotiations reportedly moving closer after the Italian giants made the World Cup-winning goalkeeper their priority target.

Villa’s decision to move for Suzuki therefore appears closely linked to Martínez’s potential departure. While a transfer to Juventus is not yet officially completed, the arrival of Suzuki gives Emery a ready-made replacement should the Argentine finally leave Villa Park.

For Suzuki, the move represents a major step in his career as he prepares to make the switch from Serie A to the Premier League.
