Arsenal Ready to Move for Haaland If City Are Relegated

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make a major move for Erling Haaland if Manchester City are relegated from the Premier League.

FootballTransfers reports that the Gunners would make a serious attempt to sign the Norwegian striker should City receive a punishment that forces them out of England's top flight. A source told the outlet that Arsenal would make the move “without any shadow of a doubt” if relegation happens.

The report comes amid the fallout from Manchester City's reported guilty verdict in the Premier League's long-running financial case.

City have been reported as guilty of almost all the charges brought against them, although the full written decision has not yet been made public and the club is expected to appeal. The punishment is also yet to be decided, with potential sporting sanctions including a points deduction or relegation being discussed.

Haaland's future would become one of the biggest issues if City were forced out of the Premier League.

The striker signed a new contract in January 2025 that runs until 2034. Sky Sports reported at the time that the agreement contains no release clauses, meaning a relegation would not automatically allow him to leave.

However, TEAMtalk has now also reported that Arsenal would seriously pursue Haaland if City are relegated, while Barcelona and Real Madrid would also be expected to enter the race.

Arsenal have already shown their willingness to spend heavily on elite attackers.

The Gunners were prepared to make a huge investment in Vinícius Júnior during the summer and have continued to look for ways to strengthen their attack. FootballTransfers also reports that Arsenal see Haaland as a potential target if City's situation becomes severe.

For now, though, there is no Arsenal bid for Haaland.

Everything depends on what punishment Manchester City eventually receive, whether that punishment survives an appeal and whether Haaland becomes available for transfer.

But if City are ultimately relegated, Arsenal appear ready to make their move.
