Ancelotti Set to Test Raphinha as Brazil’s No. 9 in Major Tactical Experiment

Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly preparing a major tactical experiment with Raphinha ahead of Brazil’s next friendly against Australia.

According to SPORT, Ancelotti plans to test the Barcelona star as a No. 9, moving him into a central attacking role rather than using him primarily on the wing.

The decision comes after Raphinha featured for the full 90 minutes in Brazil’s recent 1–1 draw with Australia. The forward also played a role in Brazil’s late equaliser, with his corner eventually leading to Rayan’s goal.

Raphinha’s versatility has made him an important part of Ancelotti’s plans, and the coach is now exploring whether his pace, movement and finishing can be utilised more effectively through the middle.

The experiment would also give Ancelotti another option in a position where Brazil have several attacking possibilities. Raphinha has already shown that he can influence games from central areas at club level, making the move an intriguing one for the Seleção.
