Victor Osimhen has revealed how just 15 minutes at a youth trial in Abuja helped change the course of his life.

In his personal story for The Players' Tribune, the Nigeria striker recalled leaving home with a backpack containing two pairs of clothes, including a green football kit he considered lucky. He travelled to Abuja in an old car and arrived around midnight.

The next morning, he saw hundreds of young players waiting outside the stadium with the same dream.

“There must have been 900 kids waiting outside this stadium,” Osimhen recalled.

He did not even get onto the pitch on the first day.

The following day, one of the coaches finally pointed at him.

“Green shirt. Let’s go. You have 15 minutes.”

Osimhen knew he had very little time to impress the coaches, so he decided to run as hard as he could.

He scored two goals in those 15 minutes.

But even after that performance, Osimhen thought his opportunity had disappeared.

The coaches gathered the players and began calling names through a microphone. His name was not among those selected, and the youngsters started walking towards the parking lot.

Then someone called him back.

According to Osimhen's account, the team doctor had noticed that the player in the green shirt had scored twice. The doctor reportedly held up two fingers while telling the coach about him.

That moment gave Osimhen another chance.

The teenager who arrived in Abuja hoping for an opportunity would eventually become one of Nigeria's leading strikers and a major name in European football.

His story is a reminder that talent can sometimes be separated from opportunity by the smallest of moments.

For Osimhen, it was a coach pointing at a green shirt, 15 minutes on a football pitch and a doctor who remembered two goals.

What if that doctor had not spoken up?
