Enrique Riquelme Breaks Silence on Real Madrid Presidency and Club Sale

Enrique Riquelme has addressed his future at Real Madrid following the presidential election, insisting that he accepts the result and will continue supporting the club as an ordinary fan.

Riquelme was among the figures linked with the race for the presidency, but he has now made it clear that he does not intend to remain publicly involved in a constant battle after the election.

“People expected me to be around after the elections, day after day, battling, but that's not the case,” Riquelme said in an interview. “I accept the result and support the team like any other Madrid fan.”

Asked whether he could run for president again in the future, Riquelme did not completely close the door, but highlighted one issue that remains particularly important to him: the ownership structure of the club.

“The sale of the club remains a red line,” he stated.

Riquelme added that he would closely monitor any potential changes to Real Madrid's statutes that could facilitate a future sale of the club.

“I will be very attentive to any possible change in the statutes to prevent the sale from happening,” he said. “I will take action if I see that happening, although I must say that I don't see it happening at the moment.”

His comments suggest that, while Riquelme has accepted the outcome of the election and stepped back from the immediate political spotlight, he remains attentive to developments surrounding Real Madrid's institutional structure.

For now, however, he says his position is that of any other Madridista: supporting the team while remaining alert to any future changes that could affect the club's ownership model.
