Jack Moylan’s Celebration Could Add Another Layer to Ireland-Israel Controversy

Republic of Ireland forward Jack Moylan could face scrutiny after his goal celebration during Sunday’s Nations League clash with Israel, after appearing to kiss the black armband he was wearing in memory of those who lost their lives in Gaza before pointing it towards the Israeli supporters.

Moylan scored Ireland’s third goal as they raced into a 3–0 lead, but the manner of his celebration immediately added another political dimension to an already highly sensitive fixture. Reports from the match have confirmed that Ireland’s players wore black armbands, bowed their heads during the Israeli national anthem and declined the customary pre-match handshakes.
