Said El Mala has been handed one of the most iconic shirts in Köln history, becoming the first player since Lukas Podolski to wear the club’s famous No. 10 jersey.

The 19-year-old forward has been entrusted with the number as he continues to make his mark at the German club, taking over a shirt previously worn by one of Köln’s greatest modern stars.

In a fitting moment, El Mala and Podolski decided to meet after the number was officially assigned to the youngster. The meeting brought together two generations of Köln talent, with Podolski able to personally welcome the teenager into the No. 10 legacy.

For El Mala, wearing the shirt represents more than simply a squad number. Podolski became a fan favourite during his time at Köln, and his No. 10 remains strongly associated with his goals, personality and connection with the club.

Now, El Mala has the opportunity to create his own chapter.

At just 19, the expectations will be high, but so too will the excitement surrounding a young player being trusted with such a prestigious number.

The next chapter of Köln’s No. 10 story has officially begun.
