Ismaël Bennacer Leaves AC Milan as Contract Is Mutually Terminated

Ismaël Bennacer’s seven-year journey with AC Milan has officially come to an end after the Algerian midfielder and the Rossoneri mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

Milan confirmed the decision on Friday, bringing the curtain down on a spell that saw Bennacer become an important figure in the club’s midfield and play a key role in their Serie A title-winning campaign.

The 28-year-old joined Milan from Empoli in 2019 and went on to establish himself as one of the team’s most influential midfielders. His technical quality, energy and ability to dictate play from deep made him a popular figure at San Siro.

However, injuries and a decline in his regular first-team involvement eventually saw Bennacer move away from Milan on loan. He spent time at Marseille before joining Dinamo Zagreb during the 2025/26 campaign.

Now a free agent, Bennacer is expected to begin a new chapter away from European football. Reports indicate that Qatari side Al-Gharafa are among the clubs interested, with a move to Qatar reportedly close.

For Milan, the departure marks the end of an era for a player who helped deliver one of the club’s most important recent achievements. For Bennacer, it represents an opportunity to revive his career and find a new platform where he can rediscover his best form.
