Tuchel Faces England Squad Blow as Five Players Withdraw

Thomas Tuchel’s preparations for England’s upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign have been disrupted after five players withdrew from the squad through injury.

Tino Livramento, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer, Marcus Rashford and Declan Rice have all been ruled out of England’s upcoming fixtures against Spain, Czechia and Croatia, the Football Association confirmed.

Palmer’s withdrawal is particularly notable after the Chelsea forward was recalled to the England setup following his omission from Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup squad. The 24-year-old had started the season strongly for Chelsea, registering four goals and two assists in seven appearances before withdrawing from international duty. Reports indicate that his issue is a minor muscular problem that requires management.

Rashford and Mainoo both featured for Manchester United against Fulham before being substituted, with Rashford reportedly managing a hip problem. Rice, meanwhile, has been a regular for Arsenal this season, while Livramento has also been dealing with an injury issue.

Tuchel has responded by calling up Everton midfielder James Garner and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White as replacements.

England will begin their Nations League campaign against world champions Spain at Wembley on September 26, before travelling to face Czechia and Croatia.

The withdrawals leave Tuchel with several selection decisions to make as England begin a new international campaign following their World Cup run.
