Tottenham Hotspur’s latest signing has begun a new chapter in north London with a small but noticeable change. The Brazilian winger, previously known as Savinho, will now go by Sávio, with his new name appearing on the back of the No. 17 shirt.

Tottenham officially confirmed the shirt number following Sávio’s arrival from Manchester City.

The 22-year-old has reverted to his actual name, Sávio Moreira de Oliveira, after spending his Manchester City spell with “Savinho” printed on his shirt. The nickname originated during his time with the Brazilian national team, when “Savinho” was initially placed on his shirt following his first call-up.

Interestingly, the change could be viewed as a positive omen. During his breakthrough 2023/24 season with Girona, he played as Sávio and produced an impressive 11 goals and 10 assists, helping establish himself as one of Europe’s exciting young wingers.

Now, wearing No. 17 for Tottenham, Sávio will look to recreate that form under Roberto De Zerbi, who was reportedly a major factor in convincing him to move to north London.

The transfer is worth up to £85 million, with Tottenham paying an initial £75m plus potential add-ons.

For Spurs supporters, it is a fresh start for a player expected to bring pace, creativity and attacking flair to De Zerbi’s new-look Tottenham side.
