Ronaldo Still Beats Kane to 100 League Goals

Harry Kane has rewritten the Bundesliga record books, but Cristiano Ronaldo still has the edge over him when it comes to reaching 100 league goals at extraordinary speed.

Kane scored his 100th and 101st Bundesliga goals in Bayern Munich’s 7-0 victory over Union Berlin, reaching the milestone in just 98 appearances.

That made Kane the fastest player to score 100 goals in Bundesliga history, smashing Dieter Müller’s previous record of 129 games.

But Ronaldo reached the same milestone even quicker in La Liga.

The Portuguese superstar scored his 100th league goal for Real Madrid in his 92nd La Liga appearance, during a 5-1 victory over Real Sociedad in March 2012. He scored twice that night, meaning he actually left the game with 101 La Liga goals.

Ronaldo therefore reached 100 league goals six appearances quicker than Kane.

His 92-game mark is widely cited as the fastest modern achievement across Europe's traditional top-five leagues, with Kane now second on the commonly published list at 98 games.

However, there is an important historical caveat.

If “ever” literally means all-time, Ronaldo does not hold the record. Spanish striker Isidro Lángara reached 100 La Liga goals in only 80 matches for Real Oviedo in the 1930s/40s.

So the more accurate headline is that Ronaldo remains the fastest modern-era player to 100 goals in Europe's traditional top-five leagues, rather than claiming nobody in history has done it quicker.

Kane's 98-game achievement has brought him remarkably close, but Ronaldo's 92-game benchmark remains untouched among the modern comparisons.
