Real Madrid Hit Back at Javier Tebas as LaLiga Feud Escalates

Real Madrid have launched a fierce response to LaLiga president Javier Tebas, accusing him of repeatedly using his institutional position to publicly attack the club and calling for a change in the leadership of Spanish football.

The statement comes after Tebas criticised Real Madrid’s reaction to the refereeing controversy surrounding their 2-1 defeat to Atlético Madrid in Sunday’s derby. Tebas said he understood the club’s complaints but not the manner in which they were expressed, while rejecting suggestions that refereeing decisions were responsible for Madrid’s defeat.

Tebas subsequently went further on social media, dismissing claims of a refereeing conspiracy against Real Madrid and saying that maintaining such a belief was akin to “living in another galaxy.” He also accused the club of using refereeing controversies to divert attention from problems on the pitch.

Real Madrid have now responded directly, describing Tebas’ conduct as “intolerable” and accusing him of making the club a constant target of his public interventions.

The Spanish giants were particularly critical of Tebas for commenting on an article written by an independent journalist, arguing that it was inappropriate for the LaLiga president to use the discussion as an opportunity to assess and criticise the club’s sporting strategy.

Real Madrid also questioned whether Tebas is fulfilling the responsibilities of his position, arguing that the LaLiga president should represent the interests of all clubs and protect confidence in the neutrality of the competition.

The club claimed that Tebas’ repeated public attacks are damaging the image of LaLiga and Spanish football internationally. Rather than simply criticising the president, Madrid went a step further by calling for a different type of leadership at LaLiga.

According to the club, Spanish professional football needs a leader who understands that the competition belongs to its clubs and that the president's role is to administer it neutrally rather than act as its owner.

The latest exchange represents another escalation in the long-running tension between Real Madrid and Tebas, with the dispute now extending beyond refereeing controversies into questions about the leadership and governance of LaLiga.
