Marcelo Linked With FC Nantes Ambassador Role Amid Takeover Bid

Former Real Madrid and Brazil star Marcelo could take on an ambassadorial role at FC Nantes if Paulo Tavares’ proposed takeover of the French club is completed.

According to L’Équipe, Marcelo is included in a working document presented as part of Tavares’ takeover project. The document proposes the 38-year-old former left-back as a globally recognised ambassador for Nantes.

Tavares, a former football intermediary who now heads Phenix Sport Invest, is leading one of the projects seeking to acquire Nantes from current owner Waldemar Kita. Negotiations involving French and Portuguese investors are reportedly at an advanced stage, although no agreement has been completed.

Marcelo ended his playing career in 2025 after returning to boyhood club Fluminense for two seasons. During his illustrious career, he won five Champions League titles and six La Liga titles with Real Madrid, while earning 58 caps for Brazil.

For now, Marcelo's involvement remains part of the proposed project rather than a confirmed appointment, with the ambassadorial role dependent on Tavares' takeover being completed.
