Hull City Send Strong Warning With Stunning Opening Campaign
Newly promoted Hull City have wasted no time announcing their arrival back in the Premier League, producing a statement 2–0 victory over Manchester United at the MKM Stadium for their opening game of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Tigers entered the fixture knowing they would be underdogs against a Manchester United side expected to challenge near the top of the table. Instead, Hull played with confidence, intensity and discipline, turning their first Premier League appearance in nine years into a memorable occasion.
Hull’s biggest threat came from set pieces, with both goals arriving in the first half. Semi Ajayi broke the deadlock in the 17th minute before new boy Nobel Mendy doubled the advantage in the 38th minute with a header.
Both goals exposed United’s problems defending dead-ball situations and gave Hull a deserved 2–0 lead at the break.
Manchester United enjoyed plenty of possession after falling behind, but possession alone could not rescue Michael Carrick’s side. Hull remained organised and aggressive without the ball, frustrating United’s attacking players and limiting their opportunities in the final third.
The Tigers also showed impressive composure after the interval. Rather than becoming nervous and surrendering their advantage, as expected of a newbie, they defended their lead intelligently and continued to threaten on the counterattack.
For Hull, this was more than just three points. It was a powerful message to the rest of the Premier League: they have returned to the top flight believing they belong.
The newly promoted side may still face a long and difficult campaign, but if this performance is anything to go by, Hull City are unlikely to simply make up the numbers. Their 2–0 demolition of Manchester United has immediately put the Premier League on notice.
