Premier League Clubs Consider Legal Action Against Manchester City After Guilty Verdict

Several Premier League clubs are reportedly preparing to take legal action against Manchester City following the independent commission’s verdict that found the club guilty of 114 of the 115 charges relating to alleged financial breaches.

According to David Ornstein, a number of clubs have already instructed leading lawyers to examine whether they could pursue compensation from City for financial losses they believe were caused by the alleged breaches.

Potential claims could relate to clubs missing out on Champions League qualification, reduced Premier League prize money and sponsorship-related bonuses during the period covered by the case.

The possibility of collective legal action is also being explored, with clubs potentially joining forces in what could become a class-action-style claim against Manchester City.

The reported plans would represent a separate legal battle from the Premier League’s disciplinary process. City have yet to receive a sanction for the verdict and are expected to appeal the commission’s findings.

The financial consequences of the case could therefore extend well beyond any punishment imposed by the Premier League, with rival clubs now assessing whether they have grounds to seek damages for losses they believe resulted from City’s conduct.
