Giggs Opens Rashford Debate as United Plan No14

Marcus Rashford could have a second chance to rebuild his Manchester United career, but he will have to do it without the No.10 shirt.

Ryan Giggs has reportedly backed the idea of Manchester United giving Rashford another opportunity at Old Trafford after his successful loan spell at Barcelona.

The former United winger is also reported to believe that Matheus Cunha should keep the No.10 shirt, leaving Rashford with the No.14 if he remains at the club.

That possibility has now become a reality in terms of the squad numbers. Current reports say Rashford has been offered No.14 after Cunha took over the No.10 shirt.

Rashford wore No.10 at United from 2018 before leaving the club on loan. He spent time at Aston Villa and then Barcelona, where he enjoyed a strong 2025/26 campaign.

Barcelona ultimately decided against making his move permanent, meaning Rashford has returned to his boyhood club with his future still uncertain.

The situation presents an interesting test for the England international.

He is no longer being treated as United's automatic No.10. Instead, he has to compete with a squad that has changed during his absence, while Cunha has established himself as an important attacking player.

That could make a potential comeback very different from Rashford's previous years at Old Trafford.

If he stays, the challenge is simple: perform well enough for Michael Carrick to make him impossible to leave out.

The No.14 shirt may therefore become more than just a squad number. It could represent a fresh start for Rashford.
