Mac Allister Opens Up on Liverpool Future

Alexis Mac Allister has reiterated his desire to remain at Liverpool while admitting that his long-term future at the club has not yet been decided.

The Argentina midfielder currently has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract and recently revealed that he was disappointed after learning that the club was not in a position to offer him a new deal.

However, Mac Allister has now clarified that his previous comments were made largely out of emotion and that there is no final decision over his future.

“There isn't a final decision set in stone. The reality is that I still have two years left on my contract,” he told ESPN Argentina.

Mac Allister stressed that he remains happy at Anfield and would like to stay beyond his current contract.

“From my side, I really enjoy being where I am. Hopefully, I'll stay for more years, but if it ends up being just two, that's fine too,” he said.

The 27-year-old also made it clear that he is not allowing the contract situation to distract him from his football.

“I have two years left, and a lot can happen in two years; there are plenty of possibilities,” he added.

Mac Allister's comments come after he admitted earlier this month that he was “very, very sad” that Liverpool had not offered him an extension while teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai had received new long-term deals.

Despite that disappointment, he remains appreciative of his time on Merseyside.

“I want to enjoy this time with my family because I have no doubt that this is one of the best clubs in the world,” Mac Allister said.

For now, the midfielder's position is clear: he is happy at Liverpool, wants to remain beyond his current contract if possible, but has not ruled out simply seeing out the remaining two years of his existing deal.
