Haaland’s Bizarre Man City Final Record Continues

Erling Haaland has scored goals at an incredible rate since joining Manchester City, but there is one remarkable weakness that continues to follow the Norwegian striker.

He has still never scored in a final for Manchester City.

Haaland played in City's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in Sunday's Community Shield, taking his total to 11 final appearances for the club without a goal.

His final record includes the 2022 Community Shield, 2023 FA Cup final, 2023 Champions League final, 2023 Community Shield, 2023 UEFA Super Cup, 2024 FA Cup final, 2024 Community Shield, 2025 FA Cup final, 2026 EFL Cup final, 2026 FA Cup final and the 2026 Community Shield.

In the 2023 UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla, Haaland also converted City's penalty in the shootout, but that is not officially recorded as a goal in the match.

The most recent example came in Cardiff.

Haaland started against Arsenal but was largely kept quiet as Mikel Arteta's side produced a dominant 3-0 victory. Riccardo Calafiori scored after just 24 seconds before Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard completed the scoring.

For a striker who has repeatedly broken scoring records in league and Champions League football, his lack of goals in finals is certainly unusual.

It becomes even more striking when compared with his overall record for City. He has scored 162 goals in 198 appearances for the club, according to recent reporting.

Meanwhile, Sunday's match was also a difficult competitive debut for City's new £116 million signing Elliot Anderson.

The midfielder started alongside Mateo Kovačić but struggled to make an impact as Arsenal controlled much of the game. Anderson had arrived from Nottingham Forest for a deal worth up to £116 million, making him the second-most expensive British player.

City now have plenty to work on before the Premier League begins.

And Haaland has another strange record to try to erase.
